Sometimes we need to access a machine from another location on a public network/over the internet. We all know to gain access to a machine requires a remote desktop feature enabled on Windows. Now Google has launched a feature to enable a remote desktop using a Chrome browser which makes it fairly easy to set up and leverage the advantage of remote desktop from anywhere.  

Note: You should be logged-in to your Chrome browser with your Google account. 

Steps to set up remote access on the host computer.

  • Open Chrome browser and enter remotedesktop.google.com/access and click Download,
  • Click on “Add to Chrome”,
  • Click on “Add Extension”
  • Click “Accept & Install”
  • Provide the machine name and Click Next
  • Choose your PIN and click on “Start”.
  • Setup is completed and the below screen will be shown,

Steps to take remote from other machines,

  • Open Chrome and enter remotedesktop.google.com/access.
  • Under โ€œRemote devices,โ€ click on the machine name for e.g. “LAPTOP-H”
  • It will try to connect to the remote machine then Enter your secret password.
  • Hurry! you will be accessing your remote machine.

Conclusion
We have successfully enabled the remote desktop feature using the Chrome browser extension, which is useful in many situations.
